Kearney Lake Campground is located along the main Highway 60 corridor, at kilometre 36.5. The campground is located directly beside the highway, with only a short entry road leading from Highway 60 into the main campground. The latitude and longitude coordinates of Kearney Lake Campground are 45.571971°, -78.441098°.

Kearney Lake Campground is a mid-sized campground in Algonquin Park, with 104 campsites. It doesn’t have any electrical sites, dog-free sites, or radio-free sites. Directly on the other side of Highway 60 is Pog Lake Campground, which is where you’ll find electrical sites, dog-free sites, and radio-free sites. Kearney Lake Campground does come with a range of amenities including a comfort station, flush toilets, showers, laundry services, and a good beach. The campground is split into two sections; Campground 1 is the west half of the campground, and Campground 2 is the east half of the campground. The comfort station and accessibility campsites are located within Campground 2. But don’t worry, even if you’re camping within Campground 1 you are still able to visit the comfort station, you’ll just need to walk over to Campground 2. There is a short bridge that connects the two halves of Kearney Lake Campground.

Kearney Lake Campground operates during the May long weekend (with some surrounding dates) and then closes for a few weeks until mid-June, when it stays open continuously until Labour Day.

Many of the campsites at Kearney Lake Campground look similar to each other. In general, I prefer the campsites in Campground 1 (the west half) over the campsites in Campground 2 (the east half). Both campgrounds have a variety of sites to choose from, however, I find the campsites in Campground 1 have more character to them.

One of my favourite campsites at Kearney Lake Campground is Site K113. It’s a large campsite with plenty of flat, soft ground to pitch a few tents. The fire pit is at the back of the campsite and overlooks the beachfront and Kearney Lake itself. It’s one of the few campsites in Kearney Lake Campground that offers gorgeous views and quick, easy access to the beach. However, there is no barrier and little tree coverage between the beach and the campsite, so it is not a very private campsite, and you may find people accidentally walking through your campsite to enter or exit the beach.

Site K152 and Site K154 are also some of the best campsites in Kearney Lake Campground, in my opinion. I like these sites because there’s a long path separating the main road of the campground and the actual campsite area (where the fire pit and tent pads are located). The two sites don’t have much privacy from one another, but they have slightly more privacy from the rest of the campground, relative to many of the other campsites.

Kearney Lake Campground has a combination of electrical and non-electrical campsites, so the fees will vary depending on the campsite you require. The per-night fee for a campsite at Kearney Lake Campground ranges between $47.46 to $59.33, depending on the campsite. This fee is inclusive of tax. One vehicle permit is included in the price of the campsite fee. For additional vehicles, the price is $14.13, per vehicle, per night.

In addition, there is a non-refundable reservation fee when making your booking. If you book over the phone, the fee is $13.00, and if you book online, the fee is $11.00. If you need to modify or cancel your booking, there is a minimum fee of $10.50 when modifying/cancelling over the phone, or $8.50 when modifying/cancelling online. To book a campsite at Kearney Lake Campground, you’ll need to visit the Ontario Parks website. Making a reservation is very straightforward. First, start by visiting reservations.ontarioparks.com. You should automatically be on the “Campsite” tab. In the “Park” dropdown, select “Algonquin – Pog Lake & Kearney Lake”.  Follow the steps from there, and in just a few minutes you can make your reservation for Kearney Lake Campground.

Pog Lake Campground and Kearney Lake Campground are two separate campgrounds, but since they are very close to each other, Ontario Parks groups them together for booking purposes.

You can also book a campsite at Kearney Lake Campground over the phone by calling Ontario Parks directly at 1-888-ONT-PARK (1-888-668-7275).

Remember, reservations can be made starting at 7:00 AM from up to five months in advance of your arrival date! For example, if you’d like to book a campsite at Kearney Lake Campground for an arrival date of September 1st, you can make your reservation as of 7:00 AM on April 1st.

The main attraction at Kearney Lake Campground is the spacious beachfront. But if you’re all beached out and you’re looking for something else to do, there’s plenty to explore nearby. Kearney Lake Campground is adjacent to the main Highway 60 corridor, in the heart of Algonquin Park. A short drive east or west along Highway 60 will take you to a number of different hiking trails, lookout points, access lakes, and key park attractions like the Visitor Centre, the Logging Museum, and the Art Centre.

One of the nearby hiking trails is the popular Lookout Trail. It’s a short trail, only about 2 kilometres in length, which climbs up to a beautiful vista overlooking the vast landscape north of Highway 60. The trail is beginner-friendly but it does have an approximate 70 metre incline, so it may pose a challenge to some people. If you’re looking for something more challenging, Centennial Ridges trail is also nearby, just south of Highway 60. Centennial Ridges is one of the longest and most challenging trails in Algonquin Park, but it takes you through beautiful landscapes and rewards you with stunning views. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, it can be a great day-trip while camping at Kearney Lake Campground.

A short distance west of Kearney Lake Campground is Lake of Two Rivers Campground. Walking through Lake of Two Rivers Campground and soaking in the views from its beachfront is a nice way to spend an afternoon. But more importantly, there’s the Lake of Two Rivers Cafe & Grill, the Lake of Two Rivers Grocery & Camp Store, and the Bicycle Rental Shop. If you’re camping at Kearney Lake Campground, all of those amenities and services are just a short 5 minutes drive away!
