Tom Thomson Lake – Campsite #2
I visited this campsite after Campsite #1, which didn’t impress me too much, but I was pleasantly surprised when I hopped on shore for this campsite. It has a good rocky landing that’s easy to pull up the canoe. Surrounding the site is a slanted jagged rocky shoreline that doesn’t only look cool, but offers some different elevations to explore by the water. There’s also gorgeous views out onto Tom Thomson… and who doesn’t love gorgeous views? Inside of the campsite are some more elevations of rock to climb and explore. But you don’t need to go too far into the campsite to get to the fire pit. The fire pit is right near the water which is something that I always prefer. It’s worth noting that the fire pit is pretty exposed to the elements, but in good weather that shouldn’t be an issue. Right above the fire pit is a good bear hang branch; you’re supposed to hang your food far away from the main campsite area, but I’m sure many people choose to use this branch anyways for the convenience. And just behind all of this is a sliver of flat ground that can accommodate a few tents. I also found one more sheltered tent spot a bit further inland. There’s lots of options for tents, and lots of room to enjoy the sun and the stars. What more could you want? One downside is that this campsite is located in the narrows of Tom Thomson so there could be lots of traffic, but other than that I think this is an awesome site.
