Mouse Lake – Campsite #6
This is the campsite that kind of, maybe, I’m not so sure but I’m pretty sure, doesn’t exist. The orange campsite marker is there, and the canoe landing was obvious to find (though I wasn’t a fan of it, especially compared to the beach landings all the other sites on Mouse Lake have). But once I made it past the landing I just saw a big grassy overgrown area. I thought to myself ok maybe the campsite was just a short walk away… I walked about 10m and saw a marking on the tree leading to the thunder box. Oddly enough the marking was one of the new, blue, non-gender markings that the park has recently changed to, meaning a ranger has been to this campsite relatively recently. A couple more meters past the marker and the thunder box was right there, and it looked like a dead end after that (see thunder box image below, it’s hard to see, but it’s there). Then I thought to myself ok maybe the campsite was the other way and I just missed it. I walked back across the overgrown grassy area, and all I saw were large downed trees in basically all directions. Maybe the campsite was behind one of the downed trees, but now it’s no longer accessible? I honestly didn’t know, but if I couldn’t find it intuitively and immediately, this campsite gets the official ‘kind of, maybe, I’m not so sure but I’m pretty sure doesn’t exist’ status.
