Mouse Lake – Campsite #5
Unlike Campsite #4 on Mouse Lake which I called eerie, this campsite is just weird. Not eerie. Just weird. Like most other campsites on Mouse Lake, it has a beachfront landing, though I’d barely even call it that when Campsite #3, Campsite #2, and Campsite #1 have much better beaches. Right behind the beach is a steep, basically vertically climb to the main campsite. And once you make it to the campsite you’re treated to wood. Lots of wood. Everywhere is wood. Wood EVERYWHERE. Not only was there tons of great firewood scattered throughout the campsite, which is extremely rare at Algonquin campsites, but there were so many sawed chunks of tree trunks. Clearly trees has fallen across the campsite or nearby, and a warden or ranger came with an electric chainsaw to clear the area. But the result is a crazy amount of wood, stacked in rows across the campsite. You could tell that the site doesn’t get used often and it overall just had a weird vibe to me. This campsite wouldn’t be my first choice on Mouse Lake. Not my second or third choice either. But if you arrive late and get last pic, it’s not the end of the world. There are worse places you could camp.
