McGarvey Lake – Campsite #2
Every time I’ve seen someone mention McGarvey Lake, I always seem to see that they camped on the island. So that was my first stop when I was camping on McGarvey. And the site is really nice! There’s a handful of different rocky shorelines to sit by the water, and two separate canoe landings, both a very short walk to the main fire pit area. The fire pit is well made and has two benches for seating. Minor preference, but I prefer when the fire pit is lower on the ground; I prefer looking down on a fire rather than having it at eye level while sitting. There’s a very large tent spot just beside the fire pit and then another sheltered option among the trees, which is the one that I chose. The thunder box is in view from the sheltered tent spot, but that’s the joy of solo travelling… it doesn’t matter! Overall this is a pretty good site. There’s nothing about it that’s spectacular, but it excels in what most people would have in a campsite checklist, so I can see why it’s the popular site on the lake.
