Maple Lake – Campsite #8

From the water I thought this site didn’t look too bad. It had a rocky shoreline and looked like it might open up nicely once inside. I was kinda wrong. The rocky shoreline wasn’t as large as I thought it would be, and it was very sloped meaning it didn’t offer much functional space. There’s room for one or two people to sit on it and look out to the water, but the views aren’t anything exciting compared to the gorgeous views from basically every other campsite on the lake. The waters in front of the site had lily pads and rocks, making it not ideal for swimming either. Inside the campsite is relatively small but not small enough to make you feel cramped. The fire pit is pretty basic and has one long flat bench in front of it. There are three good tent spots that should be able to accommodate most groups, with some other patches of ground that can be used in a pinch if needed. The campsite does offer good shelter in inclement weather, so I will at least give it that. If this campsite were on a different lake, I’d give it an ‘ok but not great’ rating. But since it’s on Maple Lake, which has lots of nice campsites and plenty of spectacular views, I give this campsite a ‘pretty unappealing’ rating.
