Lake Opeongo, South Arm – Campsite #41
I tend to love small stranded island campsites, and this campsite almost fits that criteria. It’s small, yes, but it’s so close to the shoreline that it doesn’t exactly feel stranded. Even still, I really liked this campsite. It has an easily accessible landing, an open and spacious interior, overly large flat tent spots, and sparse enough tree coverage across the narrow island that I would always be relatively aware of my surroundings. I continued walking towards the west side of the island and I found what could be turned into a second campsite (landing and tent spot) if the park ever wanted. I wouldn’t recommend it on a tiny island when Opeongo already has a hundred other sites, but hey just saying it could be an option. The little cherry on top was the grassy areas of water between the island and the main shoreline; I wouldn’t be a surprised if a moose showed up to feed in those waters every once in a while.
