The first time I saw this site was when I used it to take shelter from a crazy thunderstorm. I wasn’t camping there, but I pulled up on shore for 20min or so. I wasn’t crazy about it. It was dark and there are some steep hills behind the site that gave me a bad vibe for some reason. Fast forward a few years to September 2021 and I visited the site again to document it properly this time… and it’s much better than what I had remembered. Even with the high water levels there were a couple different canoe landing options and a ton of open rock at the shoreline. Including, of course, that one epic boulder right by the water. The fire pit isn’t anything to write home about, but it gets the job done. And for some reason the two flat benches were moved back into the forest (I’m guessing someone had pitched a tarp during rainfall and moved the benches under the tarp). There are plenty of flat tent spots to choose from, and a long pointy rock face that faces northwest towards the main body of Head Lake for the sunset. If I’m coming from Cache Lake it probably wouldn’t be my first choice campsite, but if I was coming from Harness and this site was available, I’d probably snag it.
