Bonnechere Lake – Campsite #2
This is the highly sought after campsite on Bonnechere Lake… and for good reason. The site is situated in the southeast corner of the lake, on the tip of a long cliff peninsula. The cliffs are quite epic, stretching probably 100m+ long and around 15-20ft high. They offer gorgeous views over the south body of Bonnechere, facing west for plenty of afternoon sun and a beautiful sunset. Aside from the epic cliffs, there are a handful of flat tent spots to choose from; a few that are situated close by in the middle of the narrow peninsula (see “Tent spots” image below), and another option behind the main fire pit area. The fire pit is located right by the landing, which is tucked away behind the cliffs on the east side of the peninsula. This is actually nice because for a site that’s very exposed to winds, the main cooking (and possible tent) area is at least slightly sheltered. It’s not easy to snag this site, but if you do, consider yourself lucky… it’s definitely up there as one of my favorites in Algonquin.
