This campsite has a lot of great things about it. But let’s start with the one bad thing. The incline. To get from the landing up to the main campsite requires a steep climb. There are a handful of different paths you can use; the main path, near the official orange campsite marker, has a few stairs built to assist with the climb, but it’s quite slippery and unpredictable. I preferred using the far south side (right side when facing the campsite) because I found it had the best footing. The massive hill makes accessing the waterfront challenging, which can be annoying if you want to go for a swim, relax in the sun, go for a canoe paddle, etc. But let’s talk about everything else that’s great about this site. First, the beachfront is pretty awesome. It faces west and gets sunshine for most of the day, and provides a gorgeous view of the sunset in the evening. I actually prefer that it’s a pebble beach and not a sand beach, because sand is messy and gets everywhere. It was nice letting Elo (my pup) swim and not worry about her becoming a giant ball of sand afterwards! The swimming was great from this campsite. The south end of the beach actually wraps around the island and takes you to Campsite #26 and Campsite #25. The main campsite area is perched up high and is completely exposed to the elements, but some shelter is offered on the north and south sides. There are a number of tent spots that can be used at the north and south sides of the open area, along with a massive area of ground just south of the main campsite. Both of the adjacent Campsite #28 and Campsite #26 are very close and you’ll most likely hear anyone camping at those sites. Thankfully, all of the nearby sites were vacant when I stayed here. That was especially great considering the thunder box for this campsite was very full and gross, so I was using the thunder box meant for Campsite #26 instead. Plus, I was able to walk over to the east-facing beach from Campsite #26 to watch the sunrise and take shelter from the occasional westerly winds. But let’s jump back to this campsite. The fire pit setup is decent; the three flat benches are great, and there’s also a flat piece of wood nailed to a tree stump just off to the side. Since the campsite is completely exposed, there’s great stargazing directly from the fire pit. One thing worth mentioning is that some of the area surrounding this campsite is wet, marshy overgrowth with lots of vegetation. Unfortunately, that came with way more bugs and flying insects than I expected for a late-September trip. I kind of got eaten alive. But other than the bugginess and the steep incline at the front of this campsite, which may be a deal breaker for some people, this campsite is pretty stellar.
