Entering Campsite #8 on Big Porcupine Lake was fairly easy, with a soft ground landing nestled beside a few rocks in the water. Other than that, the shoreline leaves a lot to be desired. It’s small and enclosed and will get very little sun throughout the day. It’s not like there’s anywhere to enjoy the sun anyways. Inside of the campsite had strong enchanted forest vibes, to me at least. The fire pit was ok but the seating was too far away to enjoy the warmth from the fire. There are two very good tent spots, and there may have been some more that I didn’t take notice to. Behind the campsite, the forest is pretty open and allows for some exploring. There’s a big chunk of rocky shoreline at the water, just east of the campsite. I didn’t check, but I would guess you could easily get to that chunk of rock while exploring behind the campsite. It would be the only place to enjoy the sun and stars, but it did look like there was lots of bird poop, so maybe bringing a chair would be a good idea. Otherwise, there wasn’t much about this campsite that appealed to me. Yes, I typically do like island campsites, but this one is too dark and enclosed for me to enjoy. But that’s just my preference. If there was poor weather, this campsite would do a great job of providing shelter and a comfortable sleep. But if there was a good forecast, there are nicer, more exposed sites to choose from on Big Porcupine Lake.
