Nellie Lake in Killarney – Campsite #204
Of the three campsites on Nellie Lake, this is definitely the least desirable. It’s situated on a point, in the narrows, so lacks the same breathtaking views that the other campsites offer. It’s a very rocky and sloping campsite meaning there aren’t ideal tent spots (good luck pegging down into the rock) and it’s just generally not a ‘lounging’ type of campsite. The fire pit is also void of any seating around it. The two good things about this campsite? Well, first of all, it’s on Nellie Lake, and that alone makes it worth a stay. And the second is due to it’s location in the narrows; it means that it avoids most of the wind and combined with the shallow waters surrounding the site, the already crystal-clear views of Nellie Lake are even more noticeable and easy to admire. If one of the other campsites are still available on the lake, I would choose one of those; but if this is the last one available, I still wouldn’t hesitate to camp here. A campsite on Nellie Lake is better than no campsite at all!
