Tanamakoon Lake – Campsite #1
Even though this campsite is arbitrarily numbered #1 on the lake, it’s far from the #1 campsite on the lake. It’s a very small campsite with the fire pit just a few feet away from the water. There’s some seating at the fire pit, but it’s not very good at all. The canoe landing wasn’t great when I visited but I would guess in lower water levels it would be much more accessible. The few tent spots I found inland were big enough to accommodate a couple medium sized tents, so at least that’s one good thing about the campsite. The thunder box is also a decent walk inland and isn’t the easiest to find. I was able to find it, but I could see how at night it might get a bit confusing. The main front of the campsite is very small and the tree with the orange campsite marker had recently fallen. I’m sure in no time the tree will be chopped up and used for firewood, but at the time I visited it was just a big tree in the middle of an already small site. The campsite does have a fire pit and tent spots, so technically everything you need to be cozy for a night, but it doesn’t appeal to my personal preferences of what I look for when choosing a campsite.
