Rock Lake – Campsite #16
The front of this campsite is pretty beautiful. It’s a big open rock, which I assume is even more exposed when water levels aren’t this high. Inside of the campsite the fire pit isn’t very great and there’s no seating surrounding it. I couldn’t find any good tent spots either, but maybe that’s because there was still ice covering them. Or maybe there just aren’t any. It’s definitely not the site you want if you need lots of tent spots… or big tent spots… or any tent spots really. Otherwise it’s an ok campsite. It’s very enclosed and not very big or spacious. The thunder box is pretty far inland; there are two separate signs on trees and there’s also flagging tape to point you in the right direction since it’s quite easy to get lost, especially if it’s dark out. The main appeal is definitely the large rock at the front of the site. It makes for a perfect canoe landing and place to sit out to enjoy good weather. One thing to consider is that you will see a lot of canoeists passing by since the campsite is right on a popular canoe route.
