Rock Lake – Campsite #12
This campsite is closed for camping. It’s a cool site though. It’s not as exposed as some other sites on Rock Lake and it has more tree coverage throughout. There’s a big chunk of rock at the shoreline which is easy to confuse for the canoe landing, but there’s actually a separate smaller landing off to the side. Inside the campsite there are two massive boulders directly behind the fire pit, which aren’t only cool to look at, but would probably also provide a nice view down onto the fire if you climb up top. The fire pit itself is pretty small but there’s overgrown ‘built in’ seating right beside the fire pit, which is pretty cool if you’re solo or just with one or two other people. The seating and large boulders add a lot of character to the site which I really appreciated. I only found one flat tent spot directly beside the signage that says no camping, so it’s not an ideal site for large groups with several tents. Overall it’s a really cool site, but like Campsite #13 also on Jean Island, this campsite is currently closed for camping.
