Algonquin & Beyond

Phipps Lake – Campsite #1 - 2017

There are two campsites on Phipps Lake, however Algonquin Park only issues one permit for the lake. This means that if you’re booked for Phipps Lake, you get to choose between this site and Campsite #2. This site has a long rocky shoreline that you can walk throughout for views across the whole lake, from sunrise to sunset. Inside the site, there’s a decently built fire pit with lots of flat seating, and a handful of tent spots scattered throughout the short paths leading away from the fire pit. One of the paths has a huge flat ground area which is ideal to pitch a tent in good weather, however there is little tree coverage over the path so it’s not ideal in rain. I also like to avoid pitching my tent in the middle of pathways due to the possibility of animals strolling through (after an incident where a moose walked straight through a tarp guyline). Overall I think this is a pretty great site that’s easily accessible… plus, having the lake to yourself is always a bonus.
