It seems like the island site is always people’s first choice when camping on McGarvey Lake, so there isn’t too much info available about this site. My assumption was just that it would be a bad site… island site or go home. Well, I was wrong. I immediately liked this site a lot. It has a very accessible beach landing, though it comes with a climb to the main site. The main site is one very large opening. To one side you have enough flat ground to comfortably pitch 3-5 tents, and on the other side you have the fire pit. I loved this fire pit for its ‘no nonsense’ approach… Three flat benches within arms reach of the fire. The fire pit is small, but well built. There’s nothing fancy about the setup, but it’s perfect. The way a fire pit should be. Plus, it offers a very pretty view of the opposing shoreline. This site may not be the most ideal in poor weather conditions, but there is another sheltered tent spot inland in case you need it. If I was camping on McGarvey again in the future and the island was taken, I’d be more than happy to camp here.
