Lake Opeongo, South Arm – Campsite #29
Finally, a beautiful campsite in the south arm of Lake Opeongo! Before visiting this campsite I had checked out about 5 others, and they were all quite underwhelming. And then I pulled up to this campsite. The south shoreline is a massive area of rock sloping gradually into the water, perfect for landing the canoe, swimming, sunbathing, and stargazing. Basically, everything I care about in a campsite. The rest of the campsite is extremely large, open, and spacious, with a well made fire pit in front of a gorgeous view out onto the lake. Unfortunately there’s no seating in front of the fire pit, but there’s a nearby flat table at least. I included a few pictures of possible tent spots, but honestly the whole area around the campsite is flat and you could probably pitch your tent in thirty different spots. The only downside of this campsite is that it’s very close to Campsite #28a; I had accidentally stumbled upon that site while walking around and I thought to myself “Oh cool, a second fire pit. Looks like a tent could be pitched here too.” It was only when I paddled by on the water that I saw an orange campsite marker, indicating it was a totally separate site. But back to Campsite #29… I loved this campsite and if I was camping in the south arm of Lake Opeongo, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here. Even my dog Elo approved of the site. How do I know she approved? Well, she pooped at the campsite.. what else could that mean!?
