Joe Lake Western Narrows – Campsite #9
“To each their own”. I think that saying sums up this campsite. It’s an ok campsite but if I were coming into the backcountry, I wouldn’t want a campsite that directly faces a cottage about 50 metres away. It’s also in the narrow part of the lake on an extremely popular canoe route, so you would see tons of people passing by throughout the day. It completely lacks privacy and remoteness and doesn’t have that backcountry feel. In terms of the campsite features itself, the front of the site is very open and exposed with very limited places to hang a tarp. The fire pit and seating are rather good though. Right behind the fire pit is a big patch of ground you can use to pith your tent, and a little bit further inland towards the thunder box is another flat patch of ground. Those were the two main tent spots that I found, but there may have been more hidden away. Despite the campsite itself being ok, I personally would never camp here because of it’s location and complete lack of privacy. But maybe some people prefer that. To each their own.
