Head Lake – Campsite #5
I believe this is probably the most popular campsite on Head Lake. Partially because it’s a great site, but also partially because it’s the first site you see when entering the lake from the Cache Lake portage. The site is situated on a point with gorgeous panoramic views down the length, and width of Head Lake. The fire pit is well built and has plenty of seating surrounding it, and the whole campsite is very flat, with several places to pitch tents. The site is large, open, and exposed, but with enough trees to pitch a few tarps and take shelter in poor weather. The site does suffer from heavy abuse though, evident by the several trees chopped down to their stumps. But overall it’s a really great site, and the large chunk of rock at the front of the site is just the cherry on top. My one complaint is that it doesn’t face west, and I’m a sunset kind of guy… but at least the sunrise views are pretty spectacular.
