Hambone Lake – Campsite #1

This is about as basic as a site can get in my opinion. It has a large open interior with a simple fire pit and seating surrounding it. I started counting the tent spots on my fingers but had to stop because I ran out of fingers. Sounds decent so far, right? That’s everything the site offers though. The landing is rooty and not very accessible, and there’s nowhere to enjoy the sunshine. There aren’t great swimming opportunities either. The only appeal of this site is that it’s right beside the Magnetawan access point, so if you’re travelling with young kids or introducing someone to the backcountry, it’s easy to get to. But for just one more portage, Ralph Bice offers significantly better campsite options.
