Grassy Bay – Campsite #1

This is the eastern of the two campsites on Grassy Bay. It wouldn’t be my first choice of places to camp, but it’s not all that bad. The site has a good fire pit with some flat seating, a couple different tenting options, a pretty view to the west of the lake, and an accessible landing. On the other hand, the site is surrounded by marshy waters which means no swimming and paddling out far to get drinkable water, and there’s an ugly man-made shelter imposing in the middle of the site. I visited this campsite in September, but I would imagine earlier in the season it would be an incredibly buggy site as well. If you have a reservation for Grassy Bay I’d probably check out Campsite #2 first to see if it’s available.

UPDATE: As of August 2022 it was reported that the man made shelter has been removed, and a number of trees at the campsite are standing dead and/or have fallen.
