Erables Lake – Campsite #9
From a distance, this site looked like it could be epic because all you see is a big chunk of rock. As I got closer, I noticed that the rock is very sloped, completely overgrown, and full of downed trees. Not exactly the sunbathing haven I was hoping it would be. There are spots to wedge the canoe between some rocks in the water, and then there’s a climb to the top of the rock to find the main campsite, which is actually tucked away behind the big rock. The main campsite is behind the rock and lower down, so it’s completely sheltered from the wind in basically all directions. The fire pit is quite small and the seating is rather poor, but there are two large tent spots just off to the side. This is the type of site that offers good shelter in poor weather, but if that’s not the type of campsite you need, I can’t see any appealing reason to choose this campsite.
