Erables Lake – Campsite #4
This is one of the campsites that was recommended to me before visiting Erables Lake. When I stopped to check it out, it was obvious why. Like many other campsites on the lake the front of the site is a huge chunk of rock overgrown with vegetation, however unlike most of the other campsites, this rock was actually functional. There were flat areas to sit and enjoy the sun and stars, and there were smooth sloped areas by the shore that would offer good swimming. The main campsite area is also more attached to the rocky shoreline, unlike Campsite #8 and Campsite #9 where the campsite is located up, around, and down behind the big rock. But speaking of the main campsite area, the epic fire pit has two benches in front of it, and is near the waters edge with a stunning view out onto the lake and opposing shoreline. Not a bad place to have dinner, that’s for sure. Most of that main area is sloped and rocky so the tent spots are located slightly further back inland, but there are a handful of tent spots to choose from and they’re all quite sheltered since they’re further back among the trees. Landing the canoe among the rocks can be a pain. Getting your gear to the top of the rocks to the main area can be a pain. And if you like going for frequent paddles the overall accessibility can be a pain. Those things aside, this is a pretty great campsite and I can see why it’s a popular choice on Erables Lake.
