Clydegale Lake – Campsite #1 – 2017
This is my favourite campsite on Clydegale Lake. There’s a beach landing which makes it easy to access the site and unload your gear. There are a few flat tent spot options right beside the landing, before the hill up to the fire pit area. Beside the fire pit there’s also one more small tent spot option near the thunder box. The fire pit is moderately sheltered and faces the water; there’s a large rock face in front of the fire pit that trails off into another exposed rock on the lake. In low water levels you can walk to the exposed rock which offers a commanding view onto Clydegale, while also being comfortable enough to lounge on, stargaze, swim from, etc. My favourite part is that it also provides great views of both the sunset and the sunrise. A big advantage of this campsite is that it’s right near the entrance to Clydegale Lake (coming from Pen Lake), so it will shorten your travel time when you’re coming and going. The only downsides are that you’ll have some passerby’s from people entering/leaving Clydegale, and it’s close enough to Campsite #2 that you’ll be able to hear a group from there if they’re being loud. But if you’re in search of views, spaciousness, swimming, and overall accessibility, this site has it all. Oh, and keep your eye out for nearby moose 😉
