Brent Campground in Algonquin Park

Brent Campground is located at the northeast corner of Algonquin Park, at Cedar Lake. There’s a rough 40km gravel road leading into the campground, aptly named Brent Road. Caution is advised while driving on this road! There are lots of potholes, loose gravel, and winding turns. The latitude and longitude coordinates of Brent Campground are 46.025664°, -78.486284°.

Brent Campground is one of the smallest campgrounds in Algonquin Park, with only 30 campsites. It doesn’t have any electrical sites, dog-free sites, or radio-free sites. There is no comfort station, laundry services, or showers either. Motor boat access is allowed, but there’s no good beachfront for campers to enjoy. As you can see from the lack of features and amenities, Brent Campground is the least developed campground within Algonquin Park. However, some campers may actually prefer this, since it can create a quieter, more secluded car camping experience (which isn’t very common for Algonquin Park). If you’re looking for a small campground with private sites and no cell service, Brent Campground may be perfect for you.

In 2025, the Brent Campground will operate between April 25th to October 26th.

Review of Brent Campground

Brent Campground is located at the northeast corner of Algonquin Park, at Cedar Lake. There’s a rough 40km gravel road leading into the campground, aptly named Brent Road. Caution is advised while driving on this road! There are lots of potholes, loose gravel, and winding turns. The latitude and longitude coordinates of Brent Campground are 46.025664°, -78.486284°.

The Brent Campground has a few distinct sections of campsites. Site #2 through Site #6 are exposed campsites ideal for fair-weather camping, with direct water access, and a large courtyard-style clearing shared by all of the sites.

Site #7 through Site #13 are tucked away beside the campground road; they are inland campsites without water access, but the surrounding tree coverage offers great privacy and noise isolation from other groups at the campground.

Site #14 through #23 are in the main area of the campground, with the boat launch, main beachfront, and access to the backcountry via Cedar Lake. These campsites are spacious, but will offer less privacy and seclusion.

At the far east end of the campground you’ll find a handful of sites that offer good seclusion and privacy, especially given their distance from the rest of the campground. If you’re ok with having one direct neighbour, Site #24 and Site #25 are beautiful beachfront campsites that would be great during the summer months. Site #28 and Site #29 have a similar nextdoor-neighbour arrangement, also with water access, and are tucked away far from the main campground road.

Brent Campground only has non-electrical campsites, so all of the campsites throughout the campground have the same per-night fee. The per-night fee for a campsite at Brent Campground is $42.38. This fee is inclusive of tax. One vehicle permit is included in the price of the campsite fee. For additional vehicles, the price is $14.13, per vehicle, per night.

In addition, there is a non-refundable reservation fee when making your booking. If you book over the phone, the fee is $13.00, and if you book online, the fee is $11.00. If you need to modify or cancel your booking, there is a minimum fee of $10.50 when modifying/cancelling over the phone, or $8.50 when modifying/cancelling online. The above prices are inclusive of tax.

The Brent Campground is one of the most secluded campgrounds in Algonquin Park, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything to do! During the drive into the campground you’ll pass the Brent Crater Trail, along with the Brent Crater Lookout. Yes, from a real meteorite! A few of the lakes along Brent Road can be accessed via canoe, though they aren’t the most common choices for groups in the area.

There is lots of history to explore directly at the Brent Campground, like the historic community of Brent (located in the middle of the campground), the Brent Ranger Cabins (available for reservation), the short Limestone Trail (the only limestone cliff in the park), and more.

The Brent Campground is also a popular destination for groups venturing into the backcountry via Cedar Lake, which is a starting destination for various different canoe routes in Algonquin Park. Groups may choose to spend a night or two at the start, or end of their trip, to separate a long day of travel on the water and their drive back home. Canoes can be conveniently rented at the Brent Campground through Algonquin Outfitters (located onsite). For ambitious groups, the Brent Campground and Brent Store can also act as a brief stopover or resupply option during longer backcountry canoe trips.
